It was fantastic, of course (so go and see it). What’s really interesting about this film is how much of a clash there is between the tone of the original author (Roald Dahl) and the adapter (Wes Anderson), and yet the adaptation still works beautifully.
Dahl’s work always has a particularly ironic but unrepentant zing to [...]

Tests and shooting dates

You know that idea about shooting entirely on location? Yeah, so we’re doing the opposite . . . but I have some ideas for how to work out the backgrounds that should mean I don’t need animators. On December 5th we’ll be making some tests to try out these ideas. I’m confident one of them [...]

Loving it
November 11th, 2009 · 3 Comments
I recently gave a critique to someone about their story – which was a relatively funny piece – and then I got an email reply to my comments that was loads lighter than the story they’d written. Why was this? Because in the email they were relaxed. They were just trying to get back to [...]

Site problems

Changes . . .
October 16th, 2009 · No Comments
Stuffed! has been going forward, but no plan survives reality. And of course the busier a project is the less easy it is to find time to document it.
I have a completed draft of the pilot episode. It is, however, a 30 minutes episode – so I’ve decided to write a much shorter piece, or [...]

Story!
September 24th, 2009 · No Comments
These last few weeks I’ve been sitting down for two hours every night to write, Sundays through Thursdays. So far twice I’ve stepped away from my TV script – once to write a treatment for a fairly long story, and then last night.
I hadn’t written a short story in two years. I wrote one last [...]
